What Is Juvederm?

Hyaluronic Acid Filler That Works With Your Anatomy, Not Against It

Juvederm is the leading brand of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, developed by Allergan Aesthetics. Unlike neurotoxins (Botox), which work by relaxing muscles, Juvederm works by physically adding volume beneath the skin — restoring what aging, gravity, and time have taken away.

The active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in your body. It holds water — up to 1,000 times its weight — which gives skin its plumpness and elasticity. As we age, natural hyaluronic acid production slows, cheeks flatten, folds deepen, and the face loses the triangular shape of youth. Juvederm replaces that volume in a precisely targeted, reversible way.

At Hallmark Dentistry, we use three primary Juvederm formulations depending on your goals: Juvederm Voluma for deep cheek and midface volume restoration, Juvederm Ultra Plus for nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and Juvederm Ultra for lip augmentation and perioral definition.

Because we are dentists — not estheticians — our knowledge of facial blood vessels, nerve anatomy, and tissue planes gives us a significant safety and precision advantage. The lower face is our domain. Filler placed in the wrong plane or too close to a vessel can cause serious complications; our training minimizes that risk.

Juvederm results are also completely reversible. If you are ever unhappy with your outcome, hyaluronidase enzyme can dissolve the filler rapidly. This reversibility makes Juvederm one of the safest categories of aesthetic injectables available.

Which Product Is Right for You?

The Juvederm Family — Three Formulations, One Goal

Not all Juvederm products are the same. Each formulation is engineered for a specific tissue depth and treatment purpose. Dr. Hallmark or Dr. Ward will recommend the right product for your specific goals during your consultation.

Lift & Volume

Juvederm Voluma

Cheeks, midface, chin

The deepest-injecting Juvederm product. Voluma uses a dense, structural gel to rebuild the scaffolding of the midface — lifting cheeks that have flattened with age and restoring the high-cheekbone contour that makes a face look youthful. Injected at the bone level for maximum lift and longevity.

Best for:

  • Flat or sunken cheeks
  • Loss of facial definition with age
  • Desire for subtle lift without surgery
  • Chin contouring and projection

Duration

Up to 18–24 months

Starting at

$900–$1,200/syringe

Smooth & Fill

Juvederm Ultra Plus

Nasolabial folds, marionette lines

A moderately dense filler for mid-tissue injection. Ultra Plus is designed to smooth the most common facial lines in women and men over 35: the nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (lines running downward from the mouth corners). Results look natural rather than 'filled.'

Best for:

  • Deep nasolabial folds ('smile lines')
  • Marionette lines creating a downturned expression
  • Lines around the corners of the mouth
  • Overall lower face rejuvenation

Duration

12–18 months

Starting at

$700–$1,000/syringe

Define & Enhance

Juvederm Ultra

Lips, perioral lines

The softest, most pliable Juvederm formulation — specifically engineered for the lips, where natural movement and softness matter most. Ultra adds volume, definition, and symmetry to lips with results that feel natural to both you and anyone close to you. Also used for fine vertical lip lines.

Best for:

  • Thin or undefined lips
  • Asymmetrical lip shape
  • Vertical lip lines above the upper lip
  • Desire for natural-looking volume, not a dramatic look

Duration

6–12 months

Starting at

$600–$900/syringe

All pricing is per syringe. Number of syringes needed varies by area and degree of volume loss. Call (256) 734-1866 for your personalized treatment plan and estimate.

How It Works

Your Juvederm Appointment at Hallmark Dentistry

Most Juvederm appointments take 30–60 minutes. No extended recovery. Results are immediate and continue to refine over the following week.

01

Consultation

Call (256) 734-1866 to schedule. Dr. Hallmark or Dr. Ward will assess your facial structure, identify areas of volume loss, and recommend specific Juvederm products with a syringe count and estimated cost. You will leave the consultation with a clear plan and no surprise fees.

02

Numbing & Prep

We apply topical numbing cream to treatment areas and allow it to take effect for 10–15 minutes. Juvederm products also contain lidocaine, so the area becomes more comfortable as treatment progresses. Most patients find this step makes the treatment very manageable.

03

Filler Placement

Using fine cannulas or needles (depending on the area), Dr. Hallmark or Dr. Ward injects Juvederm in precise amounts and at specific depths to achieve natural-looking results. You will see improvement immediately as volume is added. The full treatment takes 20–40 minutes depending on the number of areas.

04

Results & Aftercare

Swelling and redness resolve within 24–72 hours. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and direct heat for 48 hours. Final results are visible at the 2-week mark after any residual swelling settles. Schedule a follow-up if you want to assess and add more volume. Results last 6–24 months depending on product.

Why Juvederm

Six Reasons Cullman Patients Choose Juvederm at Hallmark

Immediate, Visible Results

Unlike many aesthetic treatments that take weeks to show results, Juvederm works immediately. You will see the volume difference as soon as filler is placed. Final results appear within 2 weeks as swelling resolves.

Natural-Looking Enhancement

The goal is always to look like a better version of yourself — not like you had something done. We place conservative amounts and build from there, preventing the overfilled look that comes from aggressive treatment.

6–24 months

Long-Lasting Results

Depending on the product, Juvederm results last 6–24 months. Cheek filler (Voluma) can last up to two years. This makes it a cost-effective aesthetic investment compared to products requiring more frequent retreatment.

Fully Reversible

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler — which means it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase enzyme if needed. This safety net makes it one of the most trusted categories of injectable treatments available.

Dentist-Level Precision

Dr. Hallmark and Dr. Ward understand the perioral and midfacial anatomy intimately. They know where blood vessels run, where nerves branch, and how tissue planes separate — knowledge that directly informs safer, more precise filler placement.

Pair With Botox for Full Results

Botox relaxes muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. Juvederm fills the static volume loss that Botox cannot address. Together, they address the full spectrum of facial aging in a single appointment at Hallmark Dentistry.

Common Questions

Juvederm FAQs — Cullman, AL

Questions we hear from patients considering Juvederm at our Cullman office.

How much does Juvederm cost in Cullman, AL?

Juvederm is priced per syringe. Depending on the product used, expect $600–$1,200 per syringe. Juvederm Voluma (for cheek volume) tends to be on the higher end at $900–$1,200 per syringe. Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus (for folds and lips) typically run $600–$900. Most treatment areas require 1–3 syringes depending on the degree of volume loss. Call (256) 734-1866 for a personalized estimate at our Cullman office.

What is Juvederm made of?

Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid — a naturally occurring substance found in your skin that provides hydration and structural support. As we age, our bodies produce less hyaluronic acid, leading to volume loss, sagging, and deepened lines. Juvederm replenishes this lost volume by adding hyaluronic acid back into the tissue. Because it is biologically compatible, Juvederm is well-tolerated and can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed.

How long does Juvederm last?

Results vary by product and treatment area. Juvederm Voluma (cheeks and midface) typically lasts up to 18–24 months. Juvederm Ultra Plus (nasolabial folds, marionette lines) lasts 12–18 months. Juvederm Ultra (lips) lasts 6–12 months — the mouth area metabolizes filler faster due to constant movement. Individual metabolism also affects duration. Regular maintenance treatments help sustain results over time.

What areas can Juvederm treat at Hallmark Dentistry?

We use Juvederm to restore volume and smooth lines in the midface and lower face. Primary areas include: cheek volume restoration (Voluma), nasolabial folds (the lines from nose to mouth corners), marionette lines (lines from mouth corners down toward the chin), lip augmentation and definition (Ultra), and subtle chin contouring. We do not treat areas around the eyes or forehead with filler — those areas require specialized techniques outside our current scope.

Why get Juvederm from a dentist?

Dentists have a clinical advantage over many med spa injectors when it comes to facial filler. The anatomy of the lower face — the area most commonly treated with filler — is territory dentists know intimately. Blood vessels, nerve branches, and muscle layers of the cheeks, jaw, and perioral region are central to dental education and practice. This knowledge reduces risk and improves placement precision. Dr. Hallmark and Dr. Ward work in this anatomy every day.

Is Juvederm painful?

Juvederm products are pre-mixed with lidocaine, a local anesthetic that numbs the area as it is injected. Most patients find the treatment very tolerable — describing a mild pinching or pressure sensation. We also apply topical numbing cream 10–15 minutes before treatment. Lip filler tends to be the most sensitive area; we take extra care to ensure patient comfort there. Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how easy the treatment is.

What is the difference between Juvederm Voluma, Ultra Plus, and Ultra?

These are different formulations within the Juvederm family, each designed for specific treatment depths and areas. Juvederm Voluma is a thick, structural filler designed for deep injection into the cheek and midface to restore lost volume — it adds lift and contour. Juvederm Ultra Plus is a denser filler for moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Juvederm Ultra is a smoother, softer formulation ideal for lip augmentation and finer perioral lines. The right product depends on your goals and the treatment area.

Can Juvederm be reversed?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This is an important safety feature. If you experience an adverse reaction, are unhappy with your results, or simply decide you want to return to your baseline, the filler can be dissolved in a follow-up treatment. This reversibility is one of the key advantages of hyaluronic acid fillers over permanent filler options.

Is there downtime after Juvederm?

Most patients have minimal downtime. Common post-treatment effects include mild swelling, redness, and occasional bruising at injection sites, lasting 24–72 hours. Lip treatments may involve more visible swelling for 2–5 days. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive sun or heat exposure for 24–48 hours after treatment. Most patients return to normal activities immediately, though we advise against any major social events or photo sessions in the first 48 hours.
